This class teaches student artists how to attempt the poetic stylization that world-class art makers utilize in their poetic picturemaking. We will challenge the artists to find within themselves their personal point of view in pictorial representation, with many illustrations from art history.As Matisse said in 1909: “The most important thing in painting is the intuition of the individual artist” There will be instruction involving painting techniques and drawing concepts to help the artist in the pursuit of personal poetic art work.

In the event of a COVID-related building closure, in-person classes will continue with live online learning (Zoom). In the case of equipment-intensive courses, the curriculum may be adjusted slightly. For example, all ceramics classes will continue with a handbuilding focus.

Please Note: Online registration for classes that begin on Monday or Saturday close the Friday before at 12PM. Online registration for classes that begin on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday close on the day before at 12PM.
