Painting Believable Light:  “Glow” – ACF21242

9/14 – 11/30
Tuesdays, 12 Sessions
1:00 PM – 5:00 PM

Instructor: Vincent Crotty

What makes a painting “glow?” What is the glowing quality that appears in the work of many master painters? How does an artist make this happen? To communicate a feeling of believable light in a painting, and to make a painting glow, artists must make certain decisions early in the painting process. This class includes a comprehensive exploration of the “glow factor.” Topics will include texture, transparency, color, and discussions about the creative process challenges. For intermediate and advanced painters. See website for materials list.

All good abstraction comes from reality. Using the lines of the land to access the language of abstraction, we will learn about dynamic composition, chaos within structure, and the power of brushstrokes. Oils and acrylics will be used in this class. All levels welcome.

Learn to express yourself by working from a picture of your choice or a still-life set up, exploring all the steps of the painting process, including composition, and paint mixing techniques. At the end of the session there will be an opportunity for the group to share accomplishments and ideas. Excellent for all levels. See website for materials list.

REGISTRATION POLICIES

Insufficient Enrollment: The New Art Center will make a full refund for any class cancelled due to insufficient enrollment.

Withdrawal: Up to 7 days before the first class, you may withdraw for a refund, less a $25 administrative fee per class. For any tuition payments paid by credit card your full convenience fees will be deducted from your refund. Withdrawals from classes, workshops, and events under $40 are eligible for course credit only, less a $10 fee or the full tuition amount can be donated to the New Art Center. Donors will receive an acknowledgment letter for tax purposes. Course credits are good for 1 year from the date of issue, after which time you will receive an acknowledgment letter for tax purposes.

Summer Camp Withdrawal: All withdrawals for our Summer Camp must be made by June 9 to receive a refund, less a $25 administrative fee per week. For any tuition payments paid by credit card, your full convenience fees will be deducted from your refund.

Student Absences: No refunds will be made for student absences including absences due to COVID or other sickness. We understand that students may have to miss class for a variety of reasons, but New Art decides whether or not to run a class before the term starts based on enrollment and sufficient tuition to cover our costs. Refunding students for individual absences makes it difficult to calculate a breakeven point for each class.

Faculty Absences: All efforts will be made to find a substitute for faculty absences. In the event that a class must be cancelled, students will be notified by email, which will be sent to the address provided during registration. One makeup class will be scheduled each term for a single absence by a faculty member. For multiple absences, a substitute faculty member will be assigned. There will be no refunds for faculty absences.

Scholarships: Limited scholarships are available according to need. Please apply here.
