About the Exhibition

Join us in celebrating the talented students of the New Art Center! This exhibit features work by Michael Wilson and a select group of his students. The collection presents a variety of pieces, rich with a sense of adventure and exuberance with which these artists have rendered their subjects. These paintings show emphatic juxtapositions between color and grayscale, foreground and background. While many of the scenes and subjects depicted in these works are grounded in realism, the artists’ use of scale, line, and color elevates the art beyond representation.

About Michael Wilson

Michael has been teaching at the New Art Center since 2009. He instructs all levels of students, from beginner to advanced. He graduated from the Boston Museum School in 1988, sharing first place in the selective 5th Year Traveling Fellowship. While compelling and varied, Michael’s work is ultimately unified by its focus on temporality. “Things age and change and the world and the universe go on, and the rest of us are left with memories and art.” Further, his paintings seek to bridge dichotomies between drama and humor, realism and surrealism, belief and skepticism. These traits are recognizable in both Michael’s and his students’ work.
