Other / Mixed Media – Patricia Berman & Rachel Allen
How are social messages conveyed by product packaging? Join us for a talk and discussion with Wellesley College Professor Pat Berman to examine art and ideology in our everyday environment. She will focus on the Land O’Lakes company logo, first designed in the 1920s and modified throughout the twentieth century, to reflect upon the representation of indigenous peoples in the US. How do company logos, and the design decisions that shape them, shape or reinforce cultural beliefs and practices? Reinforce or erase histories of violence? Dan Elias (Executive Director, NAC) and Rachel Allen (Assistant Curator in the Native American Fellowship Program at PEM) will join in a discussion of logotypes and daily politics following the lecture.
