Position Summary & Responsibilities
The Summer Vacation Art Program at the New Art Center seeks responsible Teaching Assistants to supervise students grades K-6 as they attend 4 classes each day (2D, 3D, Ceramics and Drama). The Summer Program is ten weeks long, beginning Monday, June 22 and ending on Friday, August 28, 2020. The New Art Center is closed July 3. Teaching Assistants (TAs) will report to the Director of Education and work closely with the Summer Program Coordinator and Art Instructors.
February and April programs are 4 days long: February 18-21, 2020 and April 21-24, 2020.
Summer Art Program TAs will assist summer faculty and staff in teaching lessons, preparing materials, keeping the NAC spaces and studios clean and organized, and providing a fun and safe environment for students. They will also oversee free time, lunch and snack breaks. When available, a counselor-in-training or aide may be assigned to help TAs. TAs will gain valuable professional experience in art education through hands-on activities and direct care of students. Art-making themes change weekly, allowing students freedom and flexibility to create unique projects and activities using a wide range of materials and techniques. Each week requires four TAs.
Time: 7:45am – 4pm; or 8:45am – 5:30pm
Applicants must have experience working with elementary school children in direct care, school, museum or community program settings. College level coursework or a bachelor’s degree in elementary education, art, art education, or fine/performing arts required. The ideal candidate will be an outgoing, self-motivated, creative and enthusiastic college student or recent graduate, able to solve problems and work with instructors and staff as a team. High school juniors and seniors, with childcare experience, will be considered for the February and April Vacation Programs.
- Candidates with the necessary skills, experience and passion who are able to commit to the full 10-week program will be given priority, but partial season applications are also encouraged.
