To the NAC Student Community,
Thank you all for the warm welcome I have received since beginning my role as Executive Director in late April. I am thrilled to be here and very much look forward to contributing to the NAC’s continued success.
I hope to meet as many of you as soon as possible, so please expect to see me popping into classes to say hello. If I miss you, please feel free to come say hello to me in the Executive Director’s office off the Holzwasser gallery at the top of the building! You can also reach me via email at [email protected] or by my direct phone at 617-964-3425. And for those of you who may be considering taking a class for the first time, or reengaging after a time away, we are so glad to have you join us, and I look forward to hearing your story too.
Like all of you, I know just how special the New Art Center is. My children and I have taken ceramics classes here and my kids also participated in the summer program. I have attended numerous events in the building over the years, including Newton Opens Studios, gallery exhibitions and private events. I believe that the NAC is a jewel in Newton; as the only mid-sized exhibition space and dedicated art school, we hold a special place in this city of 88,000+ residents. Moreover, the strength of our programs, educators and history ensures we are relevant outside of Newton’s geographical borders.
I have always believed that art builds community, and as I begin my role, I take the idea of building community to heart. As the NAC’s Board of Governors, our excellent and competent staff and I plan for the NAC’s next 40 years, I see my role as that of being a convener to draw our community to the table and develop a shared vision for the NAC’s ongoing success. This vision will entail commitment from our current community, while also making sure we reach new students and supporters who believe in our mission as a community art education space which offers everyone, at all levels of ability, exceptional opportunities to make, exhibit, view, think about and talk about art. I look forward to beginning this journey with all of you, and I am deeply excited about the future.
