New Art Center and Lasell University Collaborate This Summer to Bring New Arts Experiences to Teens

Fashion and Digital Arts Camps Offer More Creative Opportunities

Newton, MA – This summer New Art Center is launching a new Teen Summer program in partnership with Lasell University. The program features two disciplines: fashion and digital arts.  Classes take place in weekly sessions from July 10 – August 18 in the mornings (10AM – 1PM) and afternoon (2PM – 5PM). Teens can choose either half or full day. Teens can also mix and match with our ceramics and drawing classes at New Art.

“We are so excited to be able to expand our programs so that students can have access to new mediums and disciplines,” said Sarah Moriarty, New Art Center’s Education Coordinator. “Working with Lasell faculty, our teens will be able to experience a great summer camp while also getting experience of what college is like.”
The summer camp sessions will be both challenging and flexible, offering plenty of opportunity for self-expression while working with other teens. These classes are taught by Lasell University’s talented faculty and are for all levels of ability – teens can try something completely different in a fun environment.
“This is a great opportunity for high school students to be creative in a college setting, working directly with professors of Graphic Design and Fashion,” said Ken Calhoun, Lasell University Interim Dean of the School of Communication and the Arts. “We’re excited to partner with the New Art Center, leveraging the strengths from both institutions to offer a great student experience for the summer.”
In the new Digital Art camp, teens will be able to learn digital arts techniques and gain important communication and critical thinking skills. Students will use Adobe Creative Suite and other digital authoring tools with the goal of developing new work for their college portfolios.
In the Fashion Arts camp, students will learn sketching, draping, construction, and styling skills in an exciting, fast paced, and collaborative setting. This curriculum will challenge its participants to embrace self-expression by creating their very own garment.
