CODE OF CONDUCT Last Updated: 1.2.2024

OBEY FEDERAL, STATE, AND LOCAL LAWS AND THE POLICIES OF THE NEW ART CENTER

Teaching and learning require an atmosphere where the exchange of ideas can flourish. Students are asked to cooperate with faculty and staff to further the mission of the New Art Center. Accessing the opportunities offered by New Art is dependent upon adherence to the policies and guidelines specified on our website.

PRESERVE AN ENVIRONMENT CONDUCIVE TO LEARNING AND CREATIVITY

Students should not disparage other students or employees and should maintain a constructive and respectful classroom environment. Any disagreements with New Art policies and procedures should be communicated to the Director of Education and not discussed during class. Harassment of other students, employees, or contractors will not be tolerated. This policy also prohibits harassment based on race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, sex, gender identity or expression, disability (physical or mental), genetics, military or veteran status, and any other category protected by applicable law.

Your registration implies agreement not to disparage or denigrate the New Art Center orally or in writing, and that neither you nor anyone acting on your behalf will publish, post, or otherwise release any material in written or electronic format, make speeches, gain interviews, or make public statements that mention New Art, its operations, students, employees, classes, or services without the prior written consent of the New Art Center.

Conduct prohibited by this policy includes, but is not limited to:

(a) slurs or other derogatory comments;

(b) display of offensive objects, pictures, cartoons, or images; and

(c) demeaning gestures

RESPECT THE NEIGHBORHOOD & OUR NEIGHBORS

New Art Center operates in a residential neighborhood. When arranging to pick up family members and children, please avoid blocking or parking in driveways other than our own. In addition, please pick up after yourself and do not litter on the grounds.

MAINTAIN STUDIOS AND FACILITIES

We ask that everyone participate in maintaining our equipment and supplies so that we can continue to provide a safe work environment in our shared spaces. Studios should be left in the condition that they were found, or cleaner. If equipment or supplies were taken out of storage, please return them back to where they originally belong. Students should dispose of their materials in an appropriate manner, including recycling paper and following guidelines about the proper disposal of hazardous materials. Dispose of solvent waste rags and oil rags in the red safety waste disposal container located near the sink area in ELVAS. Improper disposal of oil-soaked rags is a fire hazard and could result in spontaneous combustion. Follow the safety procedures specified for each studio.

Students are expected to remove all artwork and other property by the last day of the term. Though we want everyone to feel welcome and comfortable in our environment, New Art Center is not responsible for any artwork or personal property brought into or left at the Center

New Art Center reserves the right to unenroll or refuse registration to students who fail to comply with our policies and code of conduct.
