Year One – 2023

Visitors of all ages learned Chinese and Korean calligraphy during our Lunar New Year celebration on January 22, 2023. Over 325 people attended this free community event which featured 4 art activities and 3 performances.
Families and artists celebrate at the one-day exhibition at New Art showcasing works made by developmentally delayed young adults during their free, weekly, private Expressive Arts classes.
Work from the 2023 teen ceramics studio program for grades 7 – 12, which includes wheel throwing, handbuilding, and the opportunity to explore sculptural forms.
Year Two – 2022

New Art’s inaugural Expressive Arts As Therapy group for grades 6 – 8 concluded their fall 2022 sessions by making a collaborative mandala painting.
In the 2022 teen 2D studio program for grades 7 – 12, students explored perspective and optical illusion as they painted benches with trompe l’oeil techniques. The benches are now on display throughout Newton.
Children engage in creative gross motor activities ranging from obstacle course to dance to yoga as part of the core curriculum during New Art’s February, March, April, and Summer Vacations programs.
Year Three – 2021

During New Art’s 2021 summer camp program for children in grades 1 – 6, students created 3D space habitats and later transformed the box exteriors into rocket ships.
A 2021 workshop allowed teen students in grades 7 – 12 to work with artist Destiny Palmer to design and create a mural for Mark Development’s Trio Building. This workshop served as inspiration for New Art’s Mural Crew program, which has been commissioned for public art opportunities around Newton.
Students from Newton North High School Spanish Class V crafted Catrianas, the traditional emblem for Dia de los Muertos for display at New Art’s event.
