New Art Center Celebrates Lunar New Year with Crafts and Cultural Performances

A Free Day of Art-making for All Ages

Newton, MA – Join the New Art Center on Sunday, February 11, 2024 from 12:00 – 4:00 PM to celebrate and welcome in the Year of the Dragon. Cartoonist and illustrator Nell Valle will serve as Lunar New Year emcee. A series of performances and art-making activities are planned for adults and families. The entire day is free and open to the public and takes place at New Art’s 61 Washington Park location.

Performers include the Greater Boston Chinese Cultural Association Music Ensemble, the Boston Academy of Korean Traditional Art, as well as dance demonstrations by the Newton Chinese School. Nell Valle will share her work and Ren Li Song will present on the art of calligraphy.

There are great expectations for this new year. The Dragon is a supernatural being that symbolizes power, nobleness, honor, luck and success in traditional Chinese culture. In addition this year, the Dragon’s qualities of excellence are enhanced by the converging of the elements of wood and fire.

New Art Center’s Lunar New Year celebration is part of the organization’s Community Cultural Days series, which provides increased community outreach through diverse and inclusive programming. These free programs are partially supported by the Mass Cultural Council and the Newton Cultural Council.
