The exhibition ASWAT : أصوات (Arabic word for voices) is a platform that gives visibility and elevates the voices and perspectives of Arab Women. Exploring themes of personal and collective identity the artwork presented will showcase the strength, diversity and impact of Arab Women with roots in countries in the Middle East Region.
ASWAT seeks to give visibility and reveal the diversity of Middle Eastern lives and experiences of Women from the Middle East Region. ASWAT aims to challenge stereotypes, to break the bias of the western assumptions about Arab Women and to create a place of encounter for all cultures. ASWAT hopes to expand on the lived experiences of women and women artists and how they experience war, migration, conflict and exile and the concept of memory, loss/gain of culture. ASWAT is a reflection of one’s personal and collective identity as an Arab Woman living in America and an invitation to build bridges between East and West.
