New Art’s Curatorial Perspective Program (formerly known as the BIPOC Curatorial Program)
As a community arts education space, New Art Center believes that art creates change. With over 45 years of building community through creativity, we remain committed to fostering dialogue, representation, and inclusion within our exhibition spaces.
New Art’s Curatorial Perspective Program offers emerging and mid-career curators the opportunity to develop exhibitions that reflect a broad spectrum of lived experiences, cultural viewpoints, and artistic perspectives. We invite curators whose voices have historically been underrepresented in mainstream institutions to share their vision and deepen community understanding through the power of curation.
This program builds on a successful initiative launched in 2020, which began in response to a national call for racial justice and equity. Since then, we have supported numerous curators in producing thought-provoking exhibitions that challenge norms, center community narratives, and amplify personal and collective storytelling through visual art.
When possible, the program supports up to three exhibitions as part of New Art’s ongoing Exhibition Program. Participating curators receive:
- Mentorship and professional development support
- An honorarium
- Exhibition space and production assistance
- Opportunities for community engagement and public programming
We believe that curatorial work is a vital act of cultural authorship. This program is designed to honor that role while creating space for new and necessary perspectives to be seen and heard.

Statement of Solidarity
The New Art Center unequivocally supports racial equality, racial justice and racial equity. We recognize that now more than ever it is crucial for cultural organizations to use their platforms to fight the racism and social injustices which are all too present in our country. We are reminded that when we see injustices we must act. The New Art Center stands in solidarity with Black, Brown and Asian members of our community to fight systematic racism.
The New Art Center is a community art education space that offers everyone, at all levels of ability, exceptional and safe opportunities to make, exhibit, view, think about, and talk about art. In this time of great sorrow, we will continue to advocate for racial equality, racial justice and racial equity for all, removing any barriers that might prevent anyone from participating in creative expression through the arts.
