DESCRIPTION

The New Art Center of Newton, MA is seeking digital arts instructors with teaching experience to lead classes for adults, teens, or kids. We’re looking for creative approaches to animation, character design, and illustration using iPads and digital design software. New Art Center pays a competitive hourly rate for new and experienced instructors. The New Art Center produces multi-week courses, day camps, week-long vacation programs, and ten-week summer arts sessions for participants of all ages. We are currently looking for a teaching artist for our Digital Character Design Teen Summer Art Studios program July 22 – 26, 2024. Hours for Child Vacation Camps are 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM, and Teen programs are 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM, daily or weekly.  Our after-school programs generally run from 3:00 – 7:30 PM, Monday – Friday. Substitute teaching and Saturday classes are also available. 

QUALIFICATIONS

Training in digital design with 2-3 years of experience working in an educational setting is required. Familiarity with using relevant software for drawing, painting, photo manipulation, animation, fashion design, or video editing recommended.  Knowledge and experience with Apple iPads, proficiency with a variety of digital tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Procreate, Pixel Studio, Sketchup, or Pret-a-template preferred.

GENERAL DUTIES

  • Ability to create and manage engaging step-by-step lessons
  • Willing to adapt lessons to a variety of language levels, abilities, and learning styles
  • Create a responsive, fun, and safe environment for all ages
  • Consistent, reliable and punctual attendance
  • Be courteous, informative, responsive, and professional at all times
  • Be the primary supervisor at all times during instruction hours and 
  • Be responsive to medical concerns, allergies, or other needed accommodations

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Able to easily switch between 2D drawing lessons and digital arts lessons
  • Able to budget time appropriately to get the most out of each day
  • Able to set realistic goals and expectations for daily, weekly, and monthly programs
  • Able to manage students and studio space for maximum safety and efficiency

COMPENSATION

Starting rate for new digital instructors is $36-40 per hour based on teaching experience. Parking is available onsite or on an adjacent street.  Lunch breaks are provided for teachers working during full-day vacation camps. Digital Arts faculty report to Reggie Woolery, Deputy Director of Education.
