Newtonville, MA – The New Art Center, a nonprofit community art education space that offers an active program of art classes, as well as opportunities for artists and art enthusiasts of all ages and all walks of life to gather, learn about, and exhibit art, is pleased to announce the placement of Reggie Woolery (he/him) as Deputy Director of Education and Taylor Mortell (she/her) as Development Director.

“New Art is driven by the belief that the practice of looking at, thinking about and making art helps human beings solve problems, learn from their environment, build durable communities and live meaningful lives,” said Emily O’Neil, Executive Director. “As the New Art Center continues to grow, we are deeply excited to welcome both Reggie and Taylor to the team.”

Reggie Woolery is a visual artist, writer, and educator. He is the former Director of Education at Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History in Detroit and the California Museum of Photography at University of California Riverside. He served as Head of Media Studies at The Ross School in East Hampton Long Island.

O’Neil continued, “Reggie’s extensive knowledge of educational practices in museum and educational settings will enable New Art to expand programming for all students as well as our larger community. We are looking forward to Reggie’s leadership and perspective as we diversify our program offerings and continue to expand our inclusive teaching practices.”

Taylor Mortell is an artist and arts administrator from Marshfield, MA. She earned a BFA in Painting from Boston University, and has been working in community arts in the greater Boston area since 2012. As an artist-fundraiser, her goal is to help create inclusive spaces where people feel empowered to boldly express themselves and ask important questions.

“Taylor’s experience as an artist and development professional will enable New Art to further hone a culture of philanthropy in the organization,” said O’Neil. “We believe Art Creates Community, and Taylor’s leadership will build and refine all aspects of New Art Center’s operations, including direct support of our free Cultural Access Programs, which make arts education accessible for everyone in our community.”

Both started their positions this week and are excited about the opportunity to further grow New Art’s programming and support New Art’s mission. For more information, https://newartcenter.org/staff/

About the New Art Center: The New Art Center is a community art education space which offers everyone, at all levels of ability, exceptional opportunities to make, exhibit, view, think about and talk about art. Since 1977, New Art has built community by lowering barriers to participation in the arts, and integrating the experience of art into everyday life. Today, we envision the New Art Center as a highly visible, bold, anti-racist, inclusive leader in art education and community building that serves the greater Boston community with programs and opportunities both in our facility and beyond our walls. New Art believes that the practice of looking at, thinking about, and making art helps human beings solve problems, learn from their environment, build durable communities, and live meaningful lives.
