We had a fabulous time with all of our young artists during Week 2 and Week 3 of our summer programs!
ART CAMP
In the kids’ classes, we learned about constellations, imagined ourselves among the stars, and had lots of fun along the way! Students learned to paint gradients, sculpted pinch pots and coil pots, and imagined what alien planets might be lurking at the corners of our universe. Campers made alien or space ships inspired by Vincent Van Gogh’s Starry Night. Older students created watercolored landscape silhouettes. In movement and performance, students imagined what it would be like to work on the moon or if aliens visited us here.
Even with the short week in Week 3, our campers made popsicles from paper maché, made magical drawings and created medieval castles in clay. Our youngest campers created whimsical 3D barbecue grills with model magic. In movement, the students did water relays. ART STUDIOS
In ceramics, students got to learn how to throw on the wheel and practiced hand sculpting. In Week 2, teen students worked with their instructor to create beautifully intricate and imaginative birdhouses – everything from cats, to mushrooms, to birthday cakes! In Week 3 they created small pots and worked hard to add details when glazing. They finished the short week with an exciting game of charades where they had one minute to sculpt an object for their team to guess!
In Week 3 of 2D art studio, teens learned all about self portraits. They began by learning the proportions of the face and how to sketch it out. Next they moved on to painting black and white self portraits, learning about using highlights and shadows to emphasize features. They finished the short week by painting their final self portraits in color. These teens worked hard to apply what they learned about self portraits!
