The New Art Center is looking for Spring 2025 curatorial proposals, to be included in our New Art Center Curatorial Exhibition Program, an open call.

The New Art Curatorial Program is a skill-building opportunity designed to support early to mid-career BIPOC identifying, New England/Greater Boston area artists, historians, and thinkers in sharing their vision through exhibitions that engage with the Newtonville neighborhood. Curators will create calls for Boston area artists to participate in the themed exhibitions, executing their thematic vision through specialized marketing campaigns and Newton networking opportunities.
This series is sponsored by The Harmony Foundation and Newton Cultural Council.
The New Art Curatorial Program Spring Exhibition will be held at the New Art Corridor, 245 Walnut St., Newton, MA 02446, a public space with 24-hour access and outfitted with security cameras. The gallery has a large flat screen tv to display digital media / virtual galleries, a 36ft wall, and an 8ft wall – both equipped with a track system including rods and security hooks for hanging. All mediums are welcome.
Eligibility
The New Art Curatorial Program call is open to established professional artists, who identify as Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. We strongly encourage curators, who are hungry to center the experiences and representations of the global majority within curation, exhibition, public art production, and consumption. The artist selection panel will consider artistic diversity, theme, and proposal structure as factors in the selection process.
You must be able to demonstrate:
- The ability to work to tight deadlines and maintain a calm ordered approach.
- Ability to work inclusively and collaboratively across boundaries to achieve positive outcomes.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to consult with and negotiate complex contracts including loans from artists.
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to work inclusively and collaboratively across teams and sectors to achieve positive outcomes.
- Ability to undertake detailed research.
- Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy with collaborators and stakeholders.
- Ability to communicate clearly with varied audiences.
Submission Requirements:
- Letter of Interest
- Curatorial CV
- A curatorial statement of 500 words or less.
- Examples of previous artwork or exhibitions curated.
- Names, Contact info for three professional references.
- A written proposal, under the thematic concept of no more than 1200 words, which should include:
- proposed exhibition title
- theme
- intention
- curatorial question
- desired mediums
- audience for exhibition
The New Art Corridor
Exhibitions are hosted at our gallery: The New Art Corridor, located at 245 Walnut St, Newton, MA, a public space with 24-hour access outfitted with security cameras. The gallery has 12ft, 16ft, and 36ft walls – all equipped with a track system including rods and security hooks for hanging. All mediums are welcome! It also includes a large TV to display digital media/virtual galleries.
