Join New Art Center’s Expressive Arts as Therapy group for middle school and high school students! We believe that visual arts are an important tool for self-expression, emotional regulation, and well-being. New Art is uniquely positioned to promote collective healing for our community through art and creative practice. This pilot program is co-facilitated by an art therapist and arts educator for students struggling with self-esteem, self-awareness, communication, and adjustments.
This expressive arts as therapy group provides a safe and responsive space for teens to create, connect, and share in a variety of art modalities in a confidential community environment. Mindfulness and ego-building weekly art exercises allow teens to access, express, and transform feelings and struggles into meaningful art forms. Expressive art materials may include: collage, clay work, mandala work, Zen poetry conversations, mask making, painting to music, and more!
Weekly sessions are held on either Mondays or Fridays from 5:30PM – 6:30PM, depending on group assignments. Groups are led by registered art therapist Erin Palazzolo-Loparo, MS-ATR alongside New Art’s Education Coordinator, Sarah Moriarty. Tuition is calculated on a sliding scale ($10-$50 per session) based on household income. Interested students must submit the forms below, which will be reviewed by the instructor. Accepted students will be contacted and asked to complete the registration process. This program and its facilitators are not performing any diagnostic evaluations/assessments or acting in the role of a primary therapist or mental health counselor.
