New Art’s summer Programs for kids and Teens Update:

Week 4- Kids

This week at camp, we traveled around the world to learn about art from all different cultures. In 3D class, students worked with Rich to construct masks using various materials and inspirations, such as ceremonial masks of West Africa to ornate Venetian carnival masks and the spiritually representative Japanese Noh masks, learning how masks express identity, emotion, and tradition. Meg led us through so many different projects in 2D class, including henna, toucans from Central America, aboriginal art from the Australian outback, and alebrijes from Mexico.

In STEAM class, students learned about the non-representational art of the Islamic World, and the role of geometry, symmetry, and tessellations in life and art history in general (such as in nature, Escher, and ancient Rome). Maddie taught us about stage direction, projection, and script writing in Performance class, leading up to all of the group plays on Friday! And in clay, we had a blast from the past and learned about Ancient Aztec imagery and Ancient Greek pottery!

Week 4 – Teens

In Digital Character Design week with Liz, students studied the works of artists and animators with the goal of understanding how to create characters that effectively tell stories and convey emotion. They focused on silhouettes, gesture, shape language, and world building as they design characters that express a personality and/or role within a setting or story.
