Newtonville, MA – The New Art Center, a nonprofit community art education space announces the opening of a new exhibit in its New Art Corridor Gallery, in celebration of Pride Month. The opening opening reception will be held at the gallery from 6-8 PM tonight, Thursday, May 25.

Over the Rainbow is an exhibition celebrating queer inter-generational connection. Right now the community is being forced apart, as the LGBTQ+ community has been throughout history, through hateful legislation and threatening social environments. The exhibition is curated by Thomas Mackie of Mobius Artists Group, whose goal with the exhibition is to encourage the sharing of resources between young people who have energy and fresh ideas and older community members, who have more experience.

“Once again, our ability to share information and be seen is being significantly impacted by censorship in educational environments, inadequate healthcare for queer bodies, and threats of violence, ” said Thomas Mackie. “In tracing our queer lineage, we are resisting our history being pushed to the back of the closet.”

“I want to thank Thomas for bringing this important exhibition to the New Art Center to share with our larger community. The works in the show are engaging and beautiful as well as revelatory in their truth-telling,” said Reggie Woolery, Deputy Director of Education for the New Art Center.

The exhibition will remain open until July 4, 2023 with an opening reception held on May 25 in the New Art Corridor Gallery. Both are free and open to the public.
