In the Children’s Art Camp…

We have been having such a fun week with your students, leaning into our wild side and incorporating rainforest animals into our artwork.

In 2D, instructor Janet Scudder brought the students right into the rainforest by having them create their own trees, discussing the importance of these trees in a rainforest ecosystem.  The students painted the trunks from the ground up, adding in bark texture and attaching tissue paper leaves.  We love how much height these trees have!

Janet brought the forest inside!

In 3D, our instructor Liz Young is leading the students in building sculptures of animals, using pipe cleaners, plaster, and air dry clay.  They are inspired by artists such as Frida Kahlo (Mexico), Henri Rousseau (France), and Yoshitomo Nara (Japan), as they work to recreate each animals’ energy.

Can you guess what this creature will become?

We’re so pleased to have Sarah Moriarty as our clay instructor this week!  She worked with our students as they created clay frogs, playing with different interpretations of their eyes and legs.  Look at all these hoppy frogs!

These clay creations are FROG-tastic!

As always, instructor Danny Bolton is hard at work directing our students in their drama class.  Each day, the groups participate in fun theatre games such as Charades and One-Word-Story, followed by rehearsals for their scripted plays.  We’re looking forward to seeing all of these theatrical performances at the end of the week as a camp!

Students raise their hands to guess what their peers are acting out.

Riley Borst has been getting our students moving in wild ways in Movement class.  We’ve been exploring how to guide the body by leading with different points of focus and tapping into our animalistic side.  And of course, we’re playing some of our favorite games, such as Four Corners and Fishy Fishy Cross My Ocean.
