Summer Coordinators

Mursal Nazary – Teen Art Studios Coordinator

Mursal Nazary was born in Kabul, Afghanistan in 1990. She left Kabul with her family for Moscow, Russia in 1993 as refugees of the Civil War, and then for Germany in 1994. Her family immigrated to Toronto, Canada in 1998. She began her artistic training in 2003 with Iranian Artist, Bita Amani, and served as her assistant for several years.

In 2012 Mursal received her BFA from OCAD University in Toronto and, in 2019, her MFA from Boston University. Since completing her formal education, Mursal has been teaching at various educational and cultural organizations, including as a lecturer at Brandeis University. Her works have been exhibited globally in Belgium, Italy, Canada and the United States.

Mursal finds resonance with certain objects and places she encounters. She seeks to explore qualities of shape, color, perspective and space in relation to these subjects and find equivalent expressions within the mediums of painting and drawing. She relies on the process of observation and aims to express a sense of the vitality and yet intimacy of her subjects in her work.
