We are excited to share what the New Art Center will be up to this October, with a host of FREE, family-friendly events throughout the month! From celebrating the Indigenous people in the Northeast and beyond to competing in a carved pumpkin competition, we have fun in store for those of all ages. We hope to see you as we are out and about in the community in the coming weeks!

Newtonville Village Day

We are excited to take part in the annual village day celebration presented by the Newtonville Area Council on October 8th! We will be offering face painting, caricatures, and a community mural for all guests to contribute to. Make sure to stop by and receive a $10 off coupon to any class at New Art, valid for 48 hours after the end of the event. This offer is only available to those who visit our booth in person at Village Day, so make sure to stop by!

IPD in Newton

New Art will be participating in the 3rd annual Indigenous Peoples Day Celebration at Albemarle Field on October 9th from 11am-5pm! We will be presenting a collaborative art project created by artist Alvin Colon (Acóma Art) and local teens. We hope you will join us to celebrate and amplify the voices of Indigenous peoples in the Northeast & beyond at this Indigenous-led and volunteer-run event!

Día de los Muertos

Join New Art Center, guest artists, and performers as we celebrate the Mexican holiday of Dia de los Muertos! We will be remembering and celebrating the lives of loved ones who have left us through music, dance, and art-making. Performances by Los Sugar Kings. Featuring Guest Artist Cristóbal Sánchez.

Papel Picado Workshop

Join us for a workshop intended for families and individuals dealing with grief. Explore the day of the dead altar and traditional cut paper art to celebrate the memory of love ones lost. This workshop takes place on October 22nd from 10am-2pm, featuring guest artist Cristóbal Sánchez. This is a pay what you can event, registration is required.

Pumpkin Carving Competition!

Join the New Art Center in our first ever pumpkin carving competition! Bring your carved or painted pumpkins to the New Art Center to be voted on for the best Pumpkin of 2023! Pumpkins can be brought to New Art the week before Halloween, 10/24-10/31. Voters will have the chance to see the display of pumpkins and vote on Halloween!

Pumpkin contest winner will be announced on 11/1! Winner gets $25 to your local arts and crafts store, and $50 credit to a New Art Center class for our upcoming Winter term. Pumpkins must be registered on this Registration Form online, or in person.
